Writing is a lifestyle.

If you don't commit to the lifestyle of writing, then writing isn't going to happen, and becoming a writer will be much harder; if not impossible.

When you commit to something, it becomes a lifestyle. There is no other way.

If you want a body packed with muscles, you have to live a life of training. You cannot not train and expect your muscles to grow.

It's the same with writing. You have to live a life of writing in order to be a writer. You have to commit. I learned that the hard way.

Afraid to commit

I always knew I wanted to be a writer. I have always written. Since I was a boy, I enjoyed writing, and I have continued to write most of my adult life.

I still remember the first time I got paid for a piece of writing 25 years ago. All of a sudden, I was a professional writer.

However, I didn't dare call myself a writer until a year ago. Not without calling myself something more than that. Journalist & Writer. Entrepreneur & Writer. I had that last title for a long time.

The truth is, I was afraid to commit to the lifestyle of writing, so I tried to have two lifestyles at the same time. It didn't work, of course. Life isn't like that. It requires focus.
